Chapter Four
ALEX
Lifeless on the floor, Lauren . . . Mary Sue doesnât move, as I stand up and adjust my painful hard-on. Do I want to fuck my girl right now? Abso-fucking-lutely. But this fella can wait. This is Laurenâs night, and we have a murder to solve. Once thatâs done, weâre heading straight for the bed. Tonightâs about hard banging, lots of noise, and multiple orgasms. So, Iâm holding off until weâre on a comfortable mattress and I can use the springs to really give me the good push.
Staring at my boneless wife, I say, âDarlinâ, do I need to solve two murders on this ranch rather than one?â
She dramatically drapes a hand over her eyes. âPossibly. Your fingers being the key weapon in this case.â
When she peeks past her arm to look up at me, I draw my fingers from my pocket, form them into a gun and blow on them, only to stick them back in my pocket.
Groaning and chuckling, she lifts up and says, âThat was such a douchey move.â
âWhat? These little weapons were just smoking, so thereâs nothing wrong with blowing them off.â
âKeep at it, and see if you get any after we find out who murdered Carl, because with corniness like that, my libido is sinking rapidly.â
She holds out her hand, and I help her up and lower my forehead to hers, staring her in the eyes. âIâm pretty sure those corny lines got you into my bed in the first place.â
Picking up her southern accent, Mary Sue says, âBless your heart, you havenât been in my bed.â
Wryly, my lips shift to the side. âOnly a matter of time, darlinâ.â
For the record, when I was hovered over the study tables in the college library, calculator in hand, mechanical pencil in the other, Lauren was the one who approached me, and when I made a terrible numbers joke, she nearly fell to the floor in hysterics. That was when I knew Iâd found my person.
Straightening up, I adjust my pants and say, âNow that Iâve extracted that deadly spider like a true manââ
She snorts.
ââI say we approach the bathroom again and look for clues.â
Handing me my gun, she stands behind me and holds on to my unbuttoned shirt. âLead the way, Clyde.â
Taking slow, deliberate steps, I hold my gun out and when I approach the bathroom door this time, I kick it open, making sure Lauren didnât set up any more traps. When the coast is clear, I take a step onto the cold tile and scan the small space. Thatâs when I see the writing on the mirror.
âHold still,â I whisper, pressing my hand to her hip. âThereâs a message written in what looks to be blood.â aka lipstick. Have fun cleaning that off the mirror, Lauren.
âBlood?â she gasps. âWhat does it say?â
Trying not to laugh, I clear my throat and read the message out loud. âYour tea selection is pure crap.â
âWhoa, thatâs just insulting in so many ways,â Mary Sue moans at my side.
